Areas of Interest

  1. Simulacrum Walk east to encounter what looks to be Malavon (1701, 466), but is in fact his simulacrum, a clever facsimile of the real Malavon. He'll engage you in dialogue, but what choices you make don't seem to matter much. Most of the slaves are killed by area-effect spells, and you end up fighting the simulacrum, as well as his cronies, which include umber hulks and iron golems. The easiest way we found to win this battle is to concentrate missile fire on the simulacrum, as he tends to die rather quickly that way. We then gave the two Potions of Mirrored Eyes we found in Marketh's Lair to our fighters to avoid being confused by the umber hulks, and thus killed by the iron golems. With the fighters protected, we were able to mow down the two golems, even though they require +3 weapons to hit. After they were dead, the umber hulks were easily dispatched.

  2. Malavon Once they're all dead, the real Malavon (1261, 589) will appear. Once he finishes his typically evil dialogue, run into the room where you found the simulacrum, then run into the small circular room to your party's right. You'll take some damage from Malavon's Corrosive Fog, which will be in the room where you found the simulacrum, but don't worry about it, as you'll have some time to heal. While you're making your way into the circular room, Malavon will be teleporting around the map setting off area spells, thus giving you time to heal and prepare yourself for his arrival. Eventually, he'll Dimension Door right into the middle of your party. Concentrate your fire on him, and he'll go down rather quickly. He'll summon a few elementals, but they're easy enough to kill once he's dead.

Don't forget to search the bodies of both Malavon and his simulacrum. Also remember to pick up Malavon's badge, which will be on his body and is the fifth of the sixth badges you will need to progress the plot. We found a Robe of the Evil Archmagi on the simulacrum (AC 5, +5% magic resistance, +1 to saving throws). Malavon had his badge, a Malavon's Rage scroll, a Robe of the Watcher (+10% magic resistance, +2 to saves vs. spells, wearer under influence of Non-Detection, immune to umber hulk's gaze), and a dagger "Fire Kiss" (3-7 damage, +3 THACO, 5% chance target is hit with Shroud of Flame).

  3. Treasure In a container, you will find a Potion of Dissipation.

  4. Treasure In this circular room, container one (1889, 832) had a Monster Summoning VII scroll, three Potions of Magic Shielding, and Oil of Null Effect; container two (2148, 856) had seeds, a Flesh to Stone scroll, a Tenser's Transformation scroll, two Potions of Invisibility, a and Potion of Invulnerability; container three (2177, 774) had two Potions of Firebreath, a Potion of Genius, a Finger of Death scroll, a Mass Invisibility scroll, and an Amulet of Dark Flesh (wearer is paralyzed and diseased); container four (2166, 734) had a Power Word: Kill scroll, an Incendiary Cloud scroll, two Potions of Absorption, two Potions of Cold Resistance, a Potion of Defense; and container five (2098, 679) had a Ring of Greater Resistance (+2 AC, +3 to saves vs. spells, +25% crushing resistance) and scrolls of Death Fog, Death Spell, Disintegrate, and Shades.

You can return the seeds to Valestis in level four of Corellon Tower (Severed Hand) for 150,000 XP. However, you'll soon have the opportunity to pick up a few more items for him, so you might want to wait to make the trip. Also, if you allowed Marketh to go free, you can take the Oil of Null Effect to Ginafae to enable her to escape.

  5. Exit After you've gathered all the items, leave via the exit and head to the northern door in the courtyard. It will take you to the broken temple and Brother Perdiem, who holds the sixth and final badge.
