Temple of the Forgotten God

The Temple of the Forgotten God is a relatively brief interlude between the Vale of Shadows and Dragon's Eye. Arundel will send you here in search of the ever-elusive Heartstone Gem. While the area is not especially large or complex, it is populated by acolytes of Talona as well as verbeegs, who get +3 to their attack rolls. Thus, the area isn't quite as easy as it may seem. Ranged weapons are especially effective in this area, as they help nullify the effects of the priests' entangle spells, and also keep the gigantic verbeegs from stomping you into gooey puddles. Magic is also effective against verbeegs, and they seem especially susceptible to Chromatic Orb.

Once inside, you will move forward a few steps and be greeted by an especially perturbed acolyte. No matter what you say, he will attack the party. Kill him and the verbeegs who lie in wait near the large statue and then follow the passage around the left side of the statue. Along with assorted verbeegs, you will find three rooms along the western wall of the map, and one in the northwest corner.

  1. Exit This is the exit goes back to Kuldahar.

  2. Entrance This is the entrance to level one.

  3. First Room In the first room, we found a chest (472, 1708) with a Ghost Armor scroll and a Potion of Stone Form.

  4. Second Room In the next room, we discovered a chest (513,1404) containing the Greater Ring of the Warrior (+1 THACO, +1 AC).

  5. Third Room In next room, we found bookshelves (355, 1169; 767, 1195) containing a Potion of Infravision and a Potion of Healing.

  6. Northwest Room In the room in the northwest corner, we found bookshelves containing various volumes of history (History of the North, History of the Drow) which can be sold to Gerth in Kuldahar. In the middle bookshelf, we found a Skull Trap scroll.

    Once finished with that side of the map, proceed along the passageway right of the statue. Again, you will find three main rooms (along with a few verbeegs and an acolyte).

  7. Southeast Room In the lower room, we found a Cursed Potion of Healing (2391, 1411).

  8. Last Room This room has steps leading down. The stairs are trapped with a Sleep spell, so be sure to disarm it before going down the steps. Two verbeegs await at the bottom of the steps. Kill them and enter the doorway to reach level two.

  9. Exit This is the way to level two.

  10. Exit This exit leaves the temple, back to the outside.
