Upper Dorn's Deep Tiers of the Dead (AR6005)
The dwarven crypt known as the Tiers of the Dead is where you will find Terikan, not to mention lots of treasure. Although the area is confined to one map, meaning one area number, there are two tiers, which we will refer to as level one and two.
Monsters: Armored Skeleton, Ghast, Ghoul, Skeleton Archer, Terikan (Lich), Wight, Zombie.
Areas of Interest
- Level One Battle Upon entry, you will be attacked by ghouls, zombies, ghasts, skeletons, and even a few wights. Kill them and you're free to loot. Beware--many of the sarcophagi are trapped, so if you have a thief, let him/her scout ahead, or be prepared to take damage. There are also three traps on the floor--one between entry doors 1 and 2 (left to right), and two on the raised platform that borders the left side of the room. DO NOT go up the main stairwell in the center of the room until you are finished pillaging the sarcophagi, as the lich is waiting for you up there.
In this room you will find the following treasure: first tomb on the left (941, 1482) had ten Bolts of Biting (1-8 damage, thirty poison damage in fifteen seconds, save vs. death for half), Mage Dagger +3 (4-7 damage, +3 THACO, +1 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level spells, 20% resistance to normal and magical fire), Large Shield +1, +4 vs. Missiles; third tomb on left (1031, 1331) had a Small Shield +1; second tomb on right (1244, 1485) had the Morning Star of the Gods (5-11 damage, +3 THACO, +1 AC, +1 Wisdom, memorize two additional 1st level priest spells, 1 additional 2nd level priest spell); and third tomb on right (1287, 1409) had ten bolts of lightning (1-8 damage, 4-16 electrical damage, save vs. breath for half).
- Treasure The left tomb (627, 573) had a Dagger +1 (2-5 damage, THAC0 +1), while the middle tomb (679, 591) had a Bastard Sword of Greater Phasing (5-11 damage, +3 THACO, 15% chance of target being phased).
- Treasure The second tomb (494, 910) contained ten Arrows of Piercing (1-6, +4 THACO, +6 physical damage, save vs. death for none), the third tomb (453, 975) had a War Hammer +1 (3-6 damage, +1 THACO), while the fourth tomb (407, 1045) had a Two-Handed Sword +1 (2-11 damage, +1 THACO).
- Treasure The second tomb (378, 1165) had a Large Shield +1, +4 vs. Missiles, while the third tomb (440, 1168) contained ten Inferno Arrows +2 (3-8 damage, +1-10 fire damage, +2 THACO). Once finished with all the looting, proceed to level two of the Tiers of the Dead.
- Terikan Upon entry to this level, you will be greeted by a lich, not to mention armored skeletons, zombies, and wights. This encounter signals the beginning of your dealings with Terikan (1430, 839). The lich will respawn after a short amount of time, so you'll need to postpone the search for treasure until you dispose of Terikan. For now, proceed with the business of killing the lich and his minions. Concentrate your fire on the lich, as when he dies, many of his cohorts die with him. Be very quick about your grave robbing once you kill him, for the lich respawns because you have not killed his "life force". When he respawns, he casts animate dead and you have another battle on your hands. You must enter the Hall of Heroes to kill his "life force".
- Treasure The tombs in the southwest corner (1225, 842) contained Bolts of Biting (1-8 damage, thirty poison damage in fifteen seconds, save vs. death for none) and a Potion of Arcane Absorption (permanent 10% magic resistance). The southest tomb had a Short Sword +1 (2-7 damage, +1 THAC0).
- Treasure The northwest tomb (1410, 577) had Terikan's Key, which is necessary to open the door on the north wall that leads to the Hall of Heroes.
- Treasure The left tomb (1364, 532) has a Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy (+2 damage, +7 THACO), while the right tomb (1448, 508) stores Bolts of Lightning (1-8 damage, 4-16 electrical damage, save vs. breath for half).
- Exit This exit takes you to the Hall of Heroes and requires Terikan's Key to open.
- Exit This exit takes you back to the gear room.
