Dark Alliance | Help | Walkthrough | Sewers Level 1
Sewers Level 1

The last map we harped about saving the game, Recall Potions, breaking containers for treasure and shopping often with Bartley. This should be applied to every single map in the game, so we will stop telling you these things. Not all areas on a map hold anything of major importance to the plot other than monsters to kill for experience and treasure. If we do not mention an area, that doesn't mean there isn't anything to see. It just means it is not that important to the plot. Make sure you explore everything for the maximum amount of experience points and treasure.

Monsters: Bugbear, Bugbear Elite, Bugbear Chieftain, Kobold, Kobold Spearman, Large Rat, Huge Rat, Giant Rat

  1. Starting Point: You start the sewers with a nice cutscene showing you not all is well in the sewers and that something evil is afoot. You see that Ethon is indeed in trouble and will need to be rescued. Follow the path west and north killing the rats as you go.

  2. Save Pedestals: These are the save pedestals. Use them often and with multiple slots in case of disaster.

  3. Locked Door: You will see a circular stone door here that you can not open. You must hit a lever to the east to open this. This is a reoccurring theme in the sewers. Through this door are kobold spearmen behind some boxes. Be careful.

  4. Lever: Pull this lever to unlock the door to the west and be treated to a small cutscene.

  5. Three Levers: Fight your way through the rats and kobolds until you get to the west side. There are three levers here protected by a large number of kobold spearmen, all in a row. This can be deadly, so make sure you use the boxes to help you dodge the spears. Pull the three levers to open the door to the north and don't forget to explore the area to the south.

  6. Boxes: This is your first test with your jumping skills. You must jump up and over a wall here using the boxes. Jump over and face a small bugbear camp.

  7. Bugbear Camp: Just a small bugbear camp, but it has some nice treasure. Kill and loot, then continue on to the east killing everything.

  8. Giant Rat: Keep going east and you come to an area that suddenly is full of dead kobolds and lots of treasure. Eventually, a giant rat will attack you. This rat is gigantic. Reminds me of the rat in that movie Nightmares. Kill him, loot the area and head back west and north of the save pedestal.

  9. Lever: Pull the lever here to open the door to the north. There is a tough fight ahead, so be prepared.

  10. Bugbear Chieftain: Upon entering the room a small cutscene is played showing the bugbear chieftain commanding his kobolds to kill you. The battle is on. Kill anything that moves and loot the area for treasure. The bugbear chieftain was guarding Ethon and when he dies he drops the jail cell key. After looting, move to east and free Ethon.

  11. Ethon: Free Ethon and you will learn he is a thief and that the new Thieves' Guild is up to no good. He gives you a key that will allow you access to level two of the sewers and then he returns to the Elfsong Tavern. By using the stairs described below or a Recall Potion, return to the Tavern for your rewards for saving Ethon. Alyth gives you 200 gold pieces and 300 experience points. Ethon gives you 100 gold pieces, an Amulet of Dexterity and 200 experience points. There are two new people in the Tavern now. Talk to them for two new quests. Ipswitch is looking for his family heirloom and Osala is looking for her missing husband. After talking to them return to level one of the sewers to proceed to level two.

  12. Stairs Up: These stairs will take you to a very small map of the city. If you do not have a Recall Potion use it to get to the Tavern and back.

  13. Exit to Level Two: This takes you down to the sewers level two.

  14. Secrect Door: Later in Act 1, a secret door will apppear here that takes you to the Thieves' Guild level one.
