Thieves' Guild Level 4 - Xantam's Throne

This is it, the final battle of Act I. Here you meet the evil behind the Thieves' Guild, Xantam the Beholder. He basically calls you a weak bag of protoplasm and informs you that your death is forthcoming. You can listen to his babble or just attack as soon as possible. Either way the result is the same, you kill him and move on to Act II.

  1. Starting Point: This is where you start and has the doorway back to level three of the Thieves' Guild. If you did not save your game before entering, you are out of luck if you die. You cannot go back to level three until the Beholder is dead.

  2. Xantam: Here hovers Xantam the Beholder guarding a portal. He is a tough fight because he has 900 hit points and is resistant to magic. He also casts very powerful spells that can hurt you quickly. Avoid him and try to use ranged weapons if possible. Once he is dead, Jherek shows up and rewards you with a Flaming Sword +1, a Fine Shortbow +1, 2,000 gold pieces and 2,000 experience points. You then discover there is more than meets the eye with the present situation. It seems Baldur's Gate is tied to the Sunset Mountains via a teleportation gate. You are the person to investigate the matter and must do so. If you want to go do some shopping and save the game, you must go back to level three and then use a Recall Potion. Once you have stocked up and said your goodbyes, recall back to level three and then re-enter the throne room.

  3. Teleportation Gate: Enter the teleportation gate to be whisked away to the Sunset Mountains and start Act II. Make sure you are absolutely ready, because there is no returning to Baldur's Gate once you do.
