Crypts of Ilmater Level 1

The first level of the Crypts holds Ipswitch's family heirloom and a new NPC to help you along the way. It is, of course, filled with the undead, whom are ready and willing to feast on your brains. Blunt weapons are the key with the undead, so if you do not have any Recall to Bartley and get something. It is not necessary to explore the entire level unless you want the treasure and experience points.

  1. Starting Point: This is where you start and has stairs back up to level two of the sewers. You are immediately attacked by skeletons and zombies, kill them and head north. Don't forget to look around for treasure.


  2. Save Pedestals: These are the save pedestals. Use them often and with multiple slots in case of disaster.


  3. Fayed: When you enter this room, a very frightened Priest of Ilmater named Fayed initiates dialogue with you. He tells you about the undead swarming from the second level below and how he sealed off the entrance. Talk to him and he will tell you how to unseal the entrance and that an evil Orb is behind it. This is his quest for you, to destroy the evil Orb. He is very handy on this level because he will heal you anytime you want him to. If you are getting hurt, run back and let Fayed heal you. From here, head north to get Ipswitch's family heirloom. If you want, explore the areas to the east and west. Beware of the skeleton archers and remember to loot treasure as you go.


  4. Family Heirloom: Here is the family heirloom that Ipswitch was looking for. Make sure you kill all the undead in the room and then use a Recall Potion back to the Tavern. Talk to Ipswitch to claim you reward of a Light Mace of Disruption +1 and 300 experience points. The mace comes in handy against the undead. Recall back to the Crypts and head north to the urn room.


  5. Urn Room: This room is full of skeleton archers and can be a tough fight. Make sure you have a saved game before entering. Once you have killed all of the skeletons, go to the north end of the room and you will see three squares on the floor. Remembering what Fayed told you, you know you must place three urns on the squares in the proper order to unseal the entrance to level two. It is quite a simple task. Just push the urns onto the squares in the following order from left to right. Bronze left, silver middle, gold right. You will here a engagement sound effect when you put the correct urn on the correct square. When all three are placed, the entrance will appear just north of the urns. Before heading down to level two, if you need to be healed go talk to Fayed. If you need to do some shopping, Recall back to Bartley.
