Dark Alliance | Help | Walkthrough | Tavern Cellars
Tavern Cellars

Time for some rat killing in the cellars of Elfsong. As we said earlier, the most important thing to remember when romping around in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is to break open every container you can. Treasure of all types can be found in them. One very important item is the Recall Potion. If you find any, make sure you pick them up to save yourself some time. Follow the map below and kill all rats as you go. Remember to save your game when you come to the pedestals. Also, pressing the L1 key twice brings up the overhead map in the upper right corner of the screen. This helps with navigation.

Monsters: Large Rat, Huge Rat, Kobold, Kobold Spearman, Huge Spider

  1. Starting Point: You start the cellars here. Just make your way through the cellars killing all rats and smashing containers as you go. There are no rooms that offer multiple exits. The game will start counting down the remaining number of rats when you have 15 left to kill. This will let you know you are still on track. If you need to go back to the Tavern, the ladder in this room will take you back up.

  2. Save Pedestals: These are the save pedestals. Use them often and with multiple slots in case of disaster.

  3. Rat Extermination: This room is where you finally kill all of the rats. If you found a Recall Potion, use it now by pressing your Start Button and then scrolling down to Recall. This teleports you back to the Elfsong Tavern. Nifty that you did not have to walk all the way back, eh? If you did not find any Recall Potions, turn around and walk all the way back to the tavern. Go talk to Alyth and you will learn that Ethon is missing in the cellars. She will ask you to find him as another quest and reward you for clearing out the cellars with 75 gold coins, 200 experience points and the key to the sewer door. Now go talk to Bartley and sell off anything you don't need and buy what you want. Remember to pick up a Recall Potion or two. Once done shopping, use the Recall function again and you will be teleported back to the same location you where when you originally used it. If you did not recall, you must run all the way back. Continue down the dungeon to confront enemies that are tougher than rats: kobolds and spiders.

  4. Nebbish's Wine: Fight your way through the kobold and kobold spearmen and look on the ground for a bottle of wine. This is the wine Nebbish wanted you to find so grab it. Use a Recall Potion and give it to him for your reward of 100 experience points and a Potion of Extra Healing. If you need to buy and sell with Bartley, do so and save your game. Recall back to where you were and continue along killing kobolds.

  5. Secret Room: This is a secret room that you will not be able to access until later in the game. Ignore it for now.

  6. Entrance to Sewers: The last room holds the locked door to the sewers and is full of huge spiders. Outside of the door is a barrel that you can ignite to make a huge explosion. You will find these from time to time in the game. Move it to where you want it and ignite it to help you kill monsters. Once you have killed everything, save the game. This would be the time to look around again to make sure you did not miss any treasure. If you need to go back and shop with Bartley do that now. The sewers are much tougher than the cellars so be as prepared as you can. Again, make sure you have some Recall Potions. Once you are ready, unlock the door with the key Alyth gave you and proceed into the stench of excrement and decay.
