Instructions

The Item Creation System allows you to create custom weapons, armor, amulets, and rings. You are required to have runestones and gems in order to customize the item. The item must also have an item grade of Fine or better. You can create items when you speak to Bartley in Baldur's Gate in Act One at the earliest--he also provide runestones and gems for sale. You'll be able to find runestones and gems throughout the many dungeons. The passive feats Enchant Item and Forge Lore will cut down the costs of creating and breaking down custom items substantially. The basic instructions of creating an item are as follows:
  1. Enter the Workshop interface.
  2. Choose an item with a "grade" Fine or better.
  3. Select the desired number of runestones. Note that the number of runestones dictates your + strength in other words +1, +2, +3, and so on. You can attach a maximum of 16 runestones to get the maximum +5 modifier.
  4. The second step is to select the desired number of gems. You can attach two different kinds of gems such as pearl and jet. Gems and their effects will only add effects up to the +. You can attach a maximum of 16 gems of the same type onto the item.
  5. Finish the weapon by confirming and paying the merchant, or cancelling the process. If you have a magical weapon that you would like to break down to retrieve the gems (runestones are not retained), you can also use the Workshop for this purpose.

In order to break down an item or weapon into its components:
  1. Enter the Workshop interface.
  2. Choose the item that you want broken down.
  3. Finish the process by confirming and paying the merchant, or cancelling the process.
