Directional Buttons:
  • Up/Down: Pressing the D-Pad Up or Down will toggle a list of your known feats and spells. This is shown on the lower left hand side in the shape of an "L".
  • Right: Pressing the D-Pad Right will toggle between your equipped melee and ranged weapons. If you only have one weapon equipped, then pressing Right will not do anything.
  • Left. Pressing the D-Pad Left will toggle the automap between full screen, mini, and off. Save points and water appear on this map along with your location as a yellow arrow.
Left Stick: Move Character. This will move your character around in the game.

Triangle Button: Jump. This allows the character to jump onto and over things. Press the triangle button and move the left stick in the direction you want to jump. If pressed with the Shift toggle, it casts the Upper readied spell.

Square Button: Use/Action. This is a general-purpose button for the game. It uses things or causes an action to happen. You use it to open doors, pull levers, talk to NPCs, open chests, pick up items and save the game at save pedestals. If pressed with the Shift toggle, it casts the Right readied spell.

Circle Button: Use Feat or Spell. This activates the feat or spell your character has selected, if any. Hold the button down to continually use the feat or spell. If pressed with the Shift toggle, it casts the Left readied spell.

X Button: Attack. This button is used for attacking, using whichever weapon is currently equipped. You can break items, such as barrels, by using the X button. If using a bow, you can slightly depress the button to aim and then click harder to fire. If pressed with the Shift toggle, it casts the Lower readied spell.

Select Button: Character Sheet/Level Up. The Select button is used to pull up the character's inventory/character sheet. When the character advances in levels, the select button is used to assign the skill points you earn.

Start Button: Pause Menu. This is an important button. When pressed the game pauses and the action stops. From the menu that comes up, you can load a new game, use a Recall potion, change the options of the game, exit back to the main menu or return to the game.

Right Stick: Rotate Camera Angle. This allows you to rotate the angle of the camera around the character, providing you a better view in some cases. This function is not available for all maps in the game. To reset the camera angle, press the stick downward.

Analog Button: This serves no purpose in the game.

R1 Button: Block (melee) or Aim (ranged weapon). If you are equipped with a melee weapon, holding down the right trigger will block incoming attacks for a short period of time. If a shield is equipped, or you have Improved Blocking, you can hold blocking for an indefinite amount of time. If you are using a bow, holding down the right trigger will make it easier to aim at a target.

R2 Button: Drink Health Potion. This will cause your character to drink a Health potion if one is in inventory. A Heath potion replenishes some of the character's hit points.

L1 Button: Shift. The Shift button changes the triangle/circle/square/X buttons to casting spells instead of their normal functions.

L2 Button: Drink Rejuvenation Potion. This will cause your character to drink a Rejuvenation potion, if one is in inventory. A Rejuvenation potion replenishes some of the character's arcane energy/mana.
