Portraits

Two portraits in .BMP format are necessary for each character. Both portraits do not have to use the same image. The larger one should be called XXXXXXXL.bmp while the smaller one should be XXXXXXXS.bmp, where the Xs are replaced by a name of 1-7 characters in length. These files are to be put in the "Portraits" folder in your main Icewind Dale II folder. Below is an example from an in-game portrait, showing you the sizes of each.

Character sheet Main screen
210 x 330 (24-bit) 42 x 42 (8-bit)
210 x 330 pixels 42 x 42 pixels
16 million colors (24-bit) 16 million or 256 colors (24 bit or 8-bit)

The main screen portrait uses less color so that hit point information can be overlain. You can turn this off by hitting the "." (period) key in game. New to Icewind Dale II is the health status bar under the portrait. The following are a few examples of how this works.
