<Nathan_BioWare> hehe.. yeah.. finding out new toys
<Silverdawn> First off. Is there something you'd like to say about the game's status?
<DaveCBio> Sorry, had to ban that Mandor guy. He tried to send me a .vbs file and it was a virus
<Silverdawn> OK. I'll come back to the status of the game later then.
<Silverdawn> Kalthorine go ahead
<Kalthorine> Hi guys!
<Kalthorine> Just a question re familiars
<Nathan_BioWare> greetings!
<Brad_BioWare> All hail mighty Silverdawn, arbiter of the curious :-)
<KarlAtBio> hi :_
<Kalthorine> I've heard you can put them in your inventory - can you put them in a quick slot too?
<Luke_Bioware> got this
<Kalthorine> And what will be the penalties if they die?
<ray_bioware> There seems to be some lag here...
<Nathan_BioWare> got part of it
<KevinMatBio> Answer: They are relegated to the first slot of your inventory and disappear when you release them
<KevinMatBio> Done
<Nathan_BioWare> If your familiar dies you suffer a permanent penalty to your con
<Nathan_BioWare> done
<ray_bioware> Ray Muzyka, joint CEO at BioWare (with Greg Zeschuk), co executive producer (with Greg Zeschuk) on BG2 at BioWare
<IP-QA-VampireAtBioware> Erick Lujan Interplay QA Project Supervisor working onsite with Bioware.

<Silverdawn> Please have you question ready to paste
<JamesAtBio> James Ohlen, Director of Writing and Design
<DaveCBio> Dave Chan, Audio
<Luke_Bioware> Luke Kristjanson, writing and design
<ray_bioware> got it
<Yoon> Ok.. About the Bonus CD (the pre order one) will the there be any way to get it in Europe? and if not will it be avaible for download later?
<Yoon> also are there any Manshoon clones in BG2?
<JamesAtBio> Ray is about to answer that question
<ray_bioware> We're preparing final candidates even now...could be any time now that we finish. We're still testing with everyone on the team to find any remaining bugs.
<Dave-at-Bio> I can answer the Manshoon clone question, at least.
<Dave-at-Bio> There aren't any. Sorry. (Manshoon clones, that is)
<Silverdawn> did anyone have answer for the Europe CDs..Lisa?
<Argyle> Any hints on new Bhaalspawn abilities? Raise dead, maybe? It might affect my starting character class.
<Greg_at_Bio> poop
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it.
<Silverdawn> apparently BioWare has been having some net problems today as well..so bear with us :)
<Dave-at-Bio> I'd like to tell you about new Bhaalspawn abilities, but that's something I think is best left to you finding out for yourself.
<Greg_at_Bio> Yup - the system is getting a bit of a workout lately..:)
<Dave-at-Bio> What class you are has no bearing on it, though... and I know that the power(s) will be beneficial to everyone. Or not. :)
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<Silverdawn> go rattus
<rattus_007> Will Baldur's Gate II be compatible with Windows 2000?
<ray_bioware> got it
<DaveCBio> Actually I think it's the server thinking we are trying to attack, being that we have so many connections from the same domain
<ray_bioware> I was just in Europe (France/Germany/UK) and they mentioned that they were interested in the bonus CD's there. I don't believe that it is decided how/when/if they would be used, however.
<Greg_at_Bio> Got the Win2000 one.
<ray_bioware> done
<Greg_at_Bio> Though BG2 doesn't officially support Win2k.
<Greg_at_Bio> We have been testing on it.
<Greg_at_Bio> And we have found that it works quite well - in general, it's a solid as the other operating systems.
<Greg_at_Bio> done
<Silverdawn> Goku. your turn
<Goku> Will Fighter/Mage Avatars be able to be seen wearing both Mage robes and Armors like plate, chain etc...? In BG1 they used the fighter avatar and Robe worn by them could not be seen on the Avatar
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it.
<Dave-at-Bio> The characters always use the avatars that have the most options for armor and weaponry, just as in BG1. So, no,. there will be no choice as to which one is used.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<DaveCBio> Anyone know how to turn off joins/parts from showing up in Mirc?
<Dethroned> File > Options > IRC
<Dethroned> Right side of the interface, also click on "Show..."
<Silverdawn> Iago: go ahead
<MageDragon[BGC]> Yes, what Dethroned said
<Iago> Will the small portraits be 40x62, as per the FAQ, or will they be 38x60, as the screen shots seem to indicate?
<DaveCBio> Thanks
<DaveCBio> Got it :) It was getting scary
<Dean_Bioware> GOt it
<Dean_Bioware> 36x60
<Dean_Bioware> 38 sorry....and 110x170
<Dean_Bioware> done
<Wyvern> Is this going to be the end of the Baldur's Gate saga now that attention is shifting to NWN?
<ray_bioware> We're very interested in continuing the BG line; however, we can't be more specific on this until/if we jointly announce any future BG plans with our publisher, Black Isle/Interplay.
<ray_bioware> done
<Silverdawn> Sartori: your turn
<Sartori> Okay, its a two parter I guess. Are the characters going to be bigger this time around and will you be able to see the party move on the map like in Icewind Dale?
<Luke_Bioware> got it
<Dean_Bioware> got it
<Luke_Bioware> dean's got it
<DerekF[BioWare]> heh
<Dean_Bioware> The characters will remain the same hight
<Dean_Bioware> Multiplayer will allow you to see your characters move on map
<Dean_Bioware> note: some creatures have gotten really, really big
<Dean_Bioware> done
<Silverdawn> go ahead shaodwpaldin
<ShadowPaldin> Did you ever feel limited by the AD&D rules or would you have prefered to write a custom system ala Fallout
<Silverdawn> please have your questions ready
<ray_bioware> got it
<Dave-at-Bio> Good question.
<ray_bioware> The AD&D system is a mixed bag - on the one hand, it's great having a rule system which is balanced and that can be implemented without the need for significant rebalancing.
<ray_bioware> As well, it's nice because it's not too limiting in terms of the storyline - we really enjoyed working on the story for BG2 (as well as BG). WOTC has been great to work with.
<Dean_Bioware> hey...where is your other hand
<buddyrich> With NPCs having upto (3?) quests associated with them approx. how much of the game is missed by multiplayers? Can you do the NPC quests in MP with a full party? Also with no swashbuckling weapons what are the swashbuckler's bonus(es)?
<ray_bioware> It is however an exclusion based system which can be difficult at times - but taking the time to put in all of the rules has really paid off in terms of the reduced need to rebalance the rules system.
<ray_bioware> All in all AD&D has been good to work with (done)
<ZarthAtBioWare> You can do NPC quests in MP if you have them in your party.
<Luke_Bioware> Some characters allow you to complete their quests without them actually present in your party, though most require them to be involved in some measure.
<Dean_Bioware> as well they are not part of the "critical path" which still leaves a bajillion quests to do
<BabyGnosi> What are you most excited about in BG 2 as developers and players? Also, any thought on the new twix?
<ray_bioware> got it
<ray_bioware> What are the "new twix" by the way? I personally really enjoyed adventuring in the Drow city - the Drow are truly an eeeevil race... :)
<ray_bioware> (done)
<Baleine[QPC]> Are you guys worried at all that some people might find BGII to be "more of the same" and loose interest in the game soon after or before buying it? After BG1, Tales of the sword coast, Torment, Icewind dale, all using the same (or almost the same) engine, dont you think its an alarming possibility to loose many potential buyers?
<Dean_Bioware> I think for me just watching the game come together into a living, breathing adventure
<ray_bioware> got it
<ray_bioware> Actually, I think people who enjoyed any of the games you mentioned or any RPG or even RTS fans will really enjoy BG2. The story and the new features added in BG2 are really significant improvements.
<ray_bioware> done
<KarlAtBio> I believe like BG1 the story line is enough to keep players interested
<Silverdawn> dpm: go ahead
<Bpm341> Hello all! I was wondering if there were any plans for an after product expansion similar to the Sword Coast expansion for BG1? And whats the deal with BG2, when???
<ray_bioware> got it
<ray_bioware> We're quite interested in an expansion (similar to Tales) for BG2 - hopefully we will have more news on this that we can announce jointly with our publishing partner, Black Isle/Interplay, soon!
<DerekF[BioWare]> Rats, Love2Play, ya beat me....
<Onisciente> Ok 2 lines here sec
<Onisciente> About the Special Bonus CD, will there be anyway to get it later? Im in Brazil and the pricetag on Interplay's store for the Special Ed came around 120US$ with the postal fees if not mistaken. Even if I had that money to blow on a game I wouldnt ;)
<Onisciente> I ask this because our version will probably be in english, so what I get is that we are to wait and see if your distributor in Brazil wants to release it?
<Onisciente> Done
<ray_bioware> Re: status - we're preparing final candidates right now. Final candidates are the final versions of the game - each one a potential "gold" candidate. We are VERY close right now.
<ray_bioware> done
<Crankshooter> good question! Will the guards and law enforcement actively hunt outlaws like part 1, and will it be more realistic in the sense of issuing warrants and hunting parties..etc.?
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it. I'll answer both questions as best I can.
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it. I'll answer both questions as best I can.
<Dave-at-Bio> First one, Interplay handles the publishing end of things. Probably no one here knows how best to answer your questions, Onisciente. Sorry, bud.
<Dave-at-Bio> As for the second,
<Dave-at-Bio> The player may be hunted, depending on his or her reputation.
<Dave-at-Bio> As far as reactions to stealing
<Dave-at-Bio> It depends mostly on whether or not you are spotted. We've cleaned up how this works so it's more reliable.
<Dave-at-Bio> That said, there are no warrants or any such thing... but there is definitely a reaction.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done.
<Calathan> Will energy drains be properly implemented, and if so will the restore spell be in the game.
<KevinMatBio> Got it
<KevinMatBio> Yes and you can use restoration scrolls or spells such as Lesser Restoration and Restoration. Also, you can protect yourself from draining with Negative Plane Protection
<KevinMatBio> Done
<MageDragon[BGC]> My question is a nagging question from BG1. When will a final patch for the DX7 multi-player problem be released?
<eek> hello, did you get my hecatombs in there? I hope to be wading hip deep in the hewn bits of my enemies, shoulder to shoulder hacking, heeps of goo and bodies
<Dave-at-Bio> One sec.
<Dave-at-Bio> OK, I'll try this one.
<Dave-at-Bio> As for hecatombs, there are some very big battles, yes. :)
<DarkElven> will the chance of causing a 10% chance of spell failure when attacking a wizard with a wizardslayer be in effect if the damage is done by ranged weapons? Also, what do developers eat during those long hard hours with whips cracking somewhere?
<Dave-at-Bio> Lots, in fact. We have to keep the number of enemies
<Dave-at-Bio> limited, though, due to frame rate. But some fights have multiple groups
<Dave-at-Bio> spawning in continuously.
<Dave-at-Bio> Good fun!
<Dave-at-Bio> :)
<Dave-at-Bio> As for the DX7 patch, I hear they're working on it. No new news, though.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
Dave-at-Bio> (they being the programmers)
<Luke_Bioware> got this one.
<Dean_Bioware> Don't mention food....i will throw up :)
<ray_bioware> Re: Wizard Slayers - no 10% chance of spell disruption with ranged weapons - so Mark tells me (the lead programmer).
<Derrick_BioWare> Dean, didn't like the pasta tonight?
<Derrick_BioWare> I found the veggie lasanga particularly tasty. :)
<DerekF[BioWare]> Skittles, Hickory Sticks, Coke, Nestea...
<DaveCBio> Mmmmm, the pasta is souperific!
<ray_bioware> Oops - according to James (lead designer) the 10% spell disruption chance DOES happen with ranged weapons.
<ray_bioware> done
<Dean_Bioware> soup...hehehe
<Derrick_BioWare> and Whoop Ass cola
<Jon_BioWare> Mmm.... Whoop Ass...
<Derrick_BioWare> hey, do we get a sponsorship deal for saying Whoop Ass?
<Derrick_BioWare> hey, do we get a sponsorship deal for saying Whoop Ass?
<DerekF[BioWare]> OK, my question. Does anyone else think that MarkD is really a D-cup? I say no.
<Derrick_BioWare> the 'official' bevarage of BioWare...
<ray_bioware> No, unfortunately not Derrick :)
<Dean_Bioware> heck no
<Derrick_BioWare> d'oh
<TapeWorm> Will there be a DVD version, if so when?
<ray_bioware> got it
<Dean_Bioware> Come to think of it, I've never thought about Marks man boobs
<Dragonsyt> First id like to say thanks to the guys at Bioware for taking the time to speak with us
<ray_bioware> There could very well be one...not sure when, however. (We're preparing the CD version first - we're preparing final candidates right now)
<Dean_Bioware> I believe I will though...hmmmmmmm
<Dragonsyt> sorry about that, i was going to paste if Drizzt was going to be pissed that we killed him in the first game
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it
<ZarthAtBioWare> Wouldn't you be? :)
<KarlAtBio> I know I would be
<Derrick_BioWare> Yeah, me too
<Dave-at-Bio> Drizzt shows up. And he certainly may remember you. And that's all we're going to say. :)
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<DragonBane> what multiplayer system will BG2 use (HEAT, Mplayer, etc.)
<Dean_Bioware> Drizzt has feelings too
<Silverdawn> anyone want to talk the MP issue?
<ray_bioware> got it
<Silverdawn> I believe it is Mplayer
<ray_bioware> We support Mplayer. We also unofficially support Gamespy.
<ray_bioware> done
<Artemis> I read a while ago on BG chronicles that the Assassin kit gets a 7x backstab, about two days later they changed it. Was that just a miss understanding or did you change the kit and if you did change the kit why? Also I have read a lot about the other classes strongholds but have only heard that the thief class will get a guild, can you give some specifics?
<Dave-at-Bio> got it
<Dave-at-Bio> I believe the initial posting at BGChronicles were the optional D&D kits
<Dave-at-Bio> could be wrong, but I believe that's it
<Dave-at-Bio> The actual rules we are using for the kits was released recently
<ray_bioware> That may have been 3rd edition, as well
<Dave-at-Bio> and BGChronicles posted all the details (thanks, guys!)
<MageDragon[BGC]> :)
<Dave-at-Bio> Assassins don't have 7x backstab, they have plenty of poison-related abilities, though.
<Dave-at-Bio> As for the stronghold,
<Dave-at-Bio> yes, running a guild is involved. But I won't spoil it for you or anyone else.
<Dave-at-Bio> Try it. It's fun.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<Itzi> I was just wonderin what races would be able to play the monk. I was getting a little distressed that I won't be able to play my elven monk. Same goes for the other 3ed classes, any race restrictions on those?
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it
<Dave-at-Bio> The classes aren't 3rd edition classes, per se.
<Dave-at-Bio> But they are a mixture of 1st edition holdovers and the 3rd edition classes put into 2nd edition format.
<Dave-at-Bio> As for the race restrictions, monks can only be played by humans.
<Dave-at-Bio> Sorcerers by humans, elves and half-elves and Barbarians by any race.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<DerekF[BioWare]> Gromnir!
<Gromnir> Gromnir understands that some changes have been made to the schools of opposition for specialist mages. Care to comment on those changes... if any?
<MageDragon[BGC]> HA! Good Fun!
<Greg_at_Bio> Opposition schools actually do stuff in BG2
<Greg_at_Bio> (Mark as Greg)
<Greg_at_Bio> +2 to saves -2 to others. Bonuses to learn spells. Can't use opposition schools
<Greg_at_Bio> done.
<Silverdawn> we will wrap this up in 15 more minutes. I believe I have enough questions to last until then.
<AllonBG> Will their be an easier way of running way or defending characters?
<Dave-at-Bio> Brent (who is great with these things) has supplied some very varied scripts for you to use and apply to characters.
<Dave-at-Bio> Failing that, it you want the NPC's to act in a certain way
<Dave-at-Bio> It is not too difficult to write up a script yourself.
<Dave-at-Bio> Also, having everything in 800x600
<Dave-at-Bio> let's you see a lot more of what's going on during a battle.
<Dave-at-Bio> Much easier to see and control things, if that's what you're asking.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<DerekF[BioWare]> ask away
<Jherdidmyquestiongetthru> Why is the Stalker such a munchkin kit? I mean it has mage spells backstab and only studded armor... not fair.. you dont want to wear more than that to duel weild.. And you look at the BGchronicles explaination of the assassin.. all they get is poison.. no enhanced backstab or anything.. bountyhunters get super traps and more points.. why?
<Jherdidmyquestiongetthru> And whats the deal with the other abilities?
<Jherdidmyquestiongetthru> of the assassin
<Jherdidmyquestiongetthru> done
<Dave-at-Bio> Got it
<Dave-at-Bio> How can you say a kit is muchkin-ish and in the same sentence call a drawback unfair? :)
<Dave-at-Bio> The assassin's kits work quite well, it depends on how you want to play.
<Dave-at-Bio> The kits are all pretty balanced. If you like one, play it... or if you think one won't fit
<Dave-at-Bio> with your playing style, then you might want to skip it.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<chris> What things have you changed to make it easier to roleplay an evil or less than lawful-good character? And will the new Classes(monks etc) get a stronghold as well? How is the Swashbuckler's tendency to get into trouble implemented into the game(if at all)?
<KevinMatBio> Got it
<KevinMatBio> There are multiple paths through the majority of the plots (good, evil etc.) There are some plots that are only for evil or only for good.
<KevinMatBio> There are plenty of options for all styles of games
<KevinMatBio> Monks do get a stronghold
<Sage> So how will Kits work with characters that we import? Will we get to assign them a Kit after we import them? For instance, I want to import my Theif from BG. WIll I get to give him an assasin kit then? And How does the IMport feature work?
<KevinMatBio> I'm not done yet
<Silverdawn> kevin..I know..just keep on going :)
<Dave-at-Bio> (kev's sensitive)
<Greg_at_Bio> Yes Kit for imported characters
<KevinMatBio> The swashbuckler's tendency to get in trouble is decided by your roleplaying. There are plenty of chances to get in trouble. Take them if you wish, it always leads to adventure.
<KevinMatBio> All of the 3 new classes get the stronghold that most closely matches their class. Example: the sorceror gets the mage stronghold.
<KevinMatBio> Done
<Dave-at-Bio> Got the kit one
<Dave-at-Bio> You import a character from BG1 when you start a new game, if you wish
<Dave-at-Bio> And you will go through options to update him/her with kits, proficiencies and such
<Dave-at-Bio> Check out the FAQ for more details would be my suggestion.
<Dave-at-Bio> Done
<Silverdawn> 2nd to last question..
<Magnus> How many goes did it take you to do all the Quests NPC and all?
<Dave-at-Bio> Wow, good question
<Magnus> How many times did you have to play through the game to do everything?
<Magnus> Is that better?
<Dave-at-Bio> Now, that'd be something for a QA guy to answer.
<Dave-at-Bio> Personally, the designers/scripters and such tend to know all the plots and how to solve them
<Silverdawn> zarth... ;-)
<Dave-at-Bio> Still, the first time through it took me about two weeks of work time to get through everything
<ZarthAtBioWare> I think I've played through the game 6 times now and still haven't seen EVERYTHING
<Jon_BioWare> To see absolutely everything? Many times, can't really say for sure.
<NathanF_BioWare> I'd say it would take you as many times through, as unique classes we have, as only they will get the unique stronghold quests :)
<Dean_Bioware> Scott L. says one character class would take just under 250-300hrs
<ZarthAtBioWare> There's alot there, and we added multiple ways to handle different plots.
<Silverdawn> last question:
<Dean_Bioware> I think your grandchildren could play and still find new things
<Jon_BioWare> I still find new things...
<NathanF_BioWare> Every time I play, I find something new, still.
<Dave-at-Bio> Grandchildren? Yeah, one of those quaint 'golden oldies'. Hee he
<Dean_Bioware> Yeah but Jon, Nathan...your not his Grandkinds
<Dean_Bioware> kids
<Silverdawn> cosmo..last question..
<cosmo> oh
<cosmo> hey
<MageDragon[BGC]> cosmo..ask your question
<cosmo> ok i was wondering if there are any known issues with vid cards with more then 64 mb of ram, such as diablo II had. Also if you had a server running with collecters edition
<cosmo> sorry slow typer
<cosmo> does everyone get access to the extra stuff
<cosmo> anyways yeh
<DerekF[BioWare]> What video card has more than 64 Meg of RAM?
<DerekF[BioWare]> I win
<Dave-at-Bio> Collector's Edition isn't a seperate game. It just has extra characters/items.
<Silverdawn> I'll rephrase that. Are video drivers problems less common now than when BG released due to improved drivers
<DerekF[BioWare]> We didn't have access to any 64 Meg and higher video cards, so we can't quite comment on that.
<Silverdawn> (or are will the game still have problems with the newest cards?)
<ray_bioware> got it
<Jon_BioWare> I do believe if the server has the extra items that they'll show up on all clients... at least that's what the readme says.
<ray_bioware> There are new cards - and new versions of Direct X. Each new version of DirectX means that the video card makers must update drivers. More cards = more drivers.
<Silverdawn> Thank you to BioWare, Black Isle and all of you for attending. Sorry we couldn't get to all the questions. We look forward to playing Baldur's Gate II shortly.
<Silverdawn> As Ray mentioned, GameSpy will be supporting BG2 (and IWD). Check it out at http://www.gamespyarcade.com.
<ray_bioware> So...more cards and more drivers = more problems. But we're trying our best to check every card and verify that things work ok. We provide details of all cards we've looked at in the readme.
<MageDragon[BGC]> Before we go, I would like to thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to come and chat with the fans. We appreciate it.
<ray_bioware> Generally 2D works quite well on almost cards.
<ray_bioware> done
<DerekF[BioWare]> All video cards with solid and strong OpenGL drivers have no problems running BG2. For example, the Voodoo and NVidia cards work very well in 3D
<Greg_at_Bio> Vantasic!
<Silverdawn> ray_bioware: has it gone gold yet? ;-)
<Greg_at_Bio> Ray's pants are gold!
<Dave-at-Bio> Ooooo, Silverdawn. Bad man! Bad!
<Dave-at-Bio> :)
<Silverdawn> I will be turning moderation off..it may get a little laggy. Chat log at BGC shortly.
<Silverdawn> Happy CD Mastering.,
*** Silverdawn sets mode: -m
<Dave-at-Bio> Thanks for the chat, MageDragon. C ya!
