Act I - Baldur's Gate

You start out in the Elfsong Tavern, where the people seem mesmerized by the haunting sound of a woman's song.

Elfsong Tavern

Talk to Alyth [1] and she will tell you that you might be able to get some of your belongings back by checking out the sewers. You can get there via the tavern's cellar, but there are a lot of large rats down there. You now have your first quest: clear the rats from the cellar. Go talk to Ethon [2] for the key to the cellar. He also gives you an old dagger.

Go into the room to the southwest. There are two books here [3] that explain the controls and how to use your inventory. When you are finished reading, go into the cellar [4].

The Tavern Cellar

When you enter the cellar [1], kill all the rats and collect the items and gold from the barrels and pots scattered around the cellar, as well as the chests [2]. Beyond the hole in the wall [3] are kobolds and spiders [4 5 and 6]. At your current level, you might not be strong enough to dispatch them all, so return to Alyth (200 XP) and she will give you 50 gold and tell you she is worried about Ethon. He went to his house to get the sewer key, but never returned. She asks you to go find Ethon, and tells you about Bartley's Weapons Shop across from the Tavern.

Baldur's Gate North

Go visit Bartley's Weapons Shop [2] to purchase better armor and weapons. The gate to the south part of the city [6] is closed because thief activity is higher in the south part of the city.

Spiders

Talk to the Old Woman east of the tavern [3]. Go into her house (right behind her) and kill the spiders, then go back to the Old Woman. She gives you 50 gp, and you get 100 XP.

Robbed

Talk to the tourist near the shop [4]. He was robbed, and wants you to get his belongings back. Go to the east side of the city and kill the thief [5], then go back to the tourist and return his stuff. He will give you 50 gold and a key that he found (100 XP.) Now go back to the Tavern.

Talk to Alyth, who identifies the key as belonging to Ethon, and asks you to go find him.

Return to the cellar and fight your way past the kobolds and spiders [4, 5, and 6] to reach the Sewers [7].

Sewers

Go into the sewers [1] and grab the magic armor from the chest at [3]. Kill the kobold [4] to get the key to open the locked door [5]. Kill the rat at [6] and take the magic helmet from the chest, then go through the door at [7]. Enter the Bugbear Camp at [8] and kill the Chieftain to get a pair of Studded Leather Boots AC6 and the Jail Key for the prison cells [9]. Unlock the cell door to free Ethon, who tells you to meet him back at the Elfsong Tavern.

Go back to the Elfsong Tavern and talk to Ethon [1]. He gives you a Dagger-Key and tells you to use it to gain access to the southern part of the Sewers. This should lead to the New Thieves' Guild.

Talk to Osala [2]. She is worried for her husband, Keissen. She asks you to let her know if you run into him.

Return to the cellar and go to the spot marked [8]. Exit here to Baldur's Gate South.

Baldur's Gate South

You come out of the Tavern Cellar near the wall [1]. There are several subquests you can do here. When you're finished exploring the area, enter the South Sewers through the grate at [8].

Stolen Purse

An Old Woman near the Marketplace [2] had her purse stolen. The thief is to the west [3]. Kill the thief, then take her purse back. The first time you talk to her, she will give you 1 gold. Talk to her again and she gives you a Ring of Intellect +1.

South Gate Key

Talk to the homeless man near the South Gate [4]. Go to the southwest part of the city and kill the thug [5]. He drops the South Gate Key. Now go back to the homeless guy to receive 5 gold and 100 XP. You can use the key to open the South Gate so you can go back and forth between the North and South sides of the city.

Rat Cleaner

Talk to the Rat Cleaner [6]. He will tell you that he has too many clients to keep up, and asks you to go kill the rats in the house near Ilmater's Cemetary. Go into the house [7], kill the rats, then tell the owner. He sends you back to the rat cleaner, who will pay you 200 gold.

South Sewers

Enter at [1] and continue to the second Sewer area. Make your way past the kobolds and green slime to kill the kobolds guarding a key [2] which opens the locked door [3]. Follow the hall to the left, and go through the hole [4] to reach more kobolds [5]. Kill the kobolds and find the key to another locked door [6] and magic armor in one of the barrels.

Go through the next door [6] and west to the steam traps. Pass through them and kill the two bugbears [7] to find the key to open the door at [8]. In one of the barrels here, you'll find a Masterwork Light Mace of Disruption.

Go through the door at [8]. One of the Bugbears drops a Ring of Regeneration. Continue to the west and kill the remaining Bugbears [9] to receive the key to the last door [10]. Behind the door, you will find Keissen, who is dying. He tells you of his mission to carry a Stone Orb to Ilmater's Cemetary, but he found out too late that the Orb was cursed. He gives you a charm to give to his wife Osala. Go up the stairs to return to the city.

The Doomed City

NOTE - There is a glitch in the game that will cause you to get stuck unless you follow this order of events!

Fayed is waiting near the manhole where you come out [1]. He tells you of the Orb [2], and how it is raising the dead. Go back to the Elfsong Tavern and talk to Ethon. He will comment about screams from the south part of the city. While you are here, give Keissen's Charm to Osala, who will give you Keissen's old Wooden Shield +3.

Go back to the south part of Baldur's Gate and kill all the undead. When you are sure they are all gone, destroy the Orb in the Cemetary. Now go back to Ethon and talk to him. If he tells you he hears screaming, then you missed some undead, in which case you have to go back and kill them first. If Ethon tells you about his friend Jerhek, then you're done with the undead and can go back to talk to Fayed. (If you talk to Fayed before you kill all the undead, you will get stuck in a loop.)

Talk to Ethon, who will ask you to deliver a message to Jerhek. Jerhek's house is near the marketplace [3].

Go back to Fayed, who thanks you and gives you a Rejuvination Potion.

Jerhek tells you that he is a member of the Harpers, and gives you a magical key so you can enter the Thieves' Guild. Go into the sewers through a manhole at the west end of the marketplace [4]. Approach the north wall, and use the magical key to enter the Thieves Guild.

The Thieves Guild

Level 1

Enter the Thieves Guild [1] and make your way up the hall, avoiding the arrow traps. Explore the area and collect what you can, killing kobolds and thieves as you go. You ultimately want to end up at [2] to go to the next area. The thief beyond the arrow traps [3] usually carries a decent weapon. There is also a hidden chest at [4].

Level 2

Enter the second level [1] and fight your way through the thieves, avoiding the arrow traps that fire down the center of the wooden bridges. Kill the kobold [2] to get the key for the locked door [3]. Grab the stuff in the chest and then continue to the east/west hallway. Run past the arrow traps [4] and kill the kobolds and thieves [5] (there are also three chests in this room) to get the key to open the locked door at [6].

Kill the kobolds, thieves, rats, and green slime [7]. Loot the chest [8] and continue to the next hallway. Kill the spiders and green slime [9] and run through the arrow traps [10]. There is a save point right before the door, then go in and face Karne, the leader of the Guild [11]. Kill him and take the Throne Room Key.

Go into the Throne Room and talk to Xantam. Kill him, then use his key to open the door to the portal. Talk to Jerhek, who gives you a Masterwork Long Sword +1 and a Frost Fine Shortbow +3, 1000 gold, and 900 xp. Use the portal to go to the Sunset Mountains.
