Our Main Purpose with The Adventurer's Guild:

Our main purpose is to enhance your gaming experience with
Baldur's Gate, and the games following. We are here to
make it easier for you to customize your gaming experience
and to also make it better. We do this by:

- Having portraits, voices, saved games, scripts etc
available for download.

- A messageboard where you can interact with other RPG gamers.

- A section devoted for you to get to know each others characters,
and also a section where new multiplayer groups can be born.

That is our main purpose.

Submiting files:

You can submit a file directly to FilePlanet.

Or you can send it to me, and I'll handle it from there.
Please add a readme file. Examples are in many of the
files on this site and FilePlanet.

Please go through the files you send and be sure
that the files work and do not contain duplicates.
I do not always check before I upload to the server.

Tips on ways to find someone to play a multiplayer game with:

1.
Make a post at the Guild Ledger asking if anyone is interested
in playing a multiplayer game.

2.
If you don't receive enough or any response to your post,
try e-mailing various people you see listed with a character
in the Player History section. But the easiest it to check
the Guild Ledger and e-mail some of the groups.

There are always lots of ways to find someone to play a
multiplayer game with, but the bottom line is get involved
and be active! Get involved with the BG community. Join
various BG chat rooms and get to know people. Post and
respond to people at our Guild Ledger.

Let everyone know who you are. When posting write a little bit
about yourself to show some of your personality in the post.
Not many people will respond to a post that only says
"Ranger seeking Guild/Group to join for a multiplayer game".
You are not paying us by the word to post...:) It's free, ramble
away why you like BG, and why you would like to play
multiplayer. Tell us about yourself. Make us want to respond to you.
Your english does not have to be perfect to post.
We will mostly understand what you are trying to say anyhow.

I hope the above tips will help you find someone to play a
multiplayer game with.

Tips on how to host a multiplayer game:

I have only played a few times in multiplayer mode,
and the best and easiest way (I think) is to use a program
on your computer called Winipcfg.exe .

With this program you are able to see your IP number
that identifies your computer on the internet. This usually
changes from time to time, so every time you plan on
hosting a game you need to check this number, so that you
can tell your buddies who plan to join you for a game which
IP number to connect to. I have created a shortcut to the
program from my BG directory, so that I have easy access to it.

If you are wondering how to find it then go to your
start menu -> Find -> Files and Folders and write
Winipcfg.exe , and be sure that you search on your C drive.
(You can also find it by using the Run menu) When you find
it then right drag it to your desktop to create a shortcut to
the program. Voila you now have an easy way of finding
your IP number. Be sure you are connect to the internet
when you test it..:) Give it a shot, and if you need
more help check this thread from our Guild Ledger.

Tips on how to customize a full group to your liking:

So you want to play with a Buffy or Xena theme group,
but you wonder how you are going to customize the
other characters that you did not create in your singleplayer game.
The answer is to create a multiplayer game.

In multiplayer you can create as many characters as you like.
From one to six it's up to you. You will have full control over
all the characters you create. You can change sounds and
portraits, so that you have your ideal theme group.

If you want to let a buddy in on your game sometime,
you are able to do that since you are playing your
own multiplayer game. He/she is able to control any
character you want to. Give it a try, and have fun! If you
want to send me an e-mail on how things go please do.
It would be fun to hear how things do go.
Or better yet, create a post at our Guild Ledger so that
others are also able to hear about your adventurer's.

Click the box where it says Save as type, and change this to All files.

Click in the File name box and add a .bmp after the name.

4.
Click Save, and save it to where ever you want the portrait.

In Internet Explorer you can choose the option of saving
images in bmp.

How to use portraits in Baldur's Gate:

1.
Create a Portraits folder in your Baldur's Gate folder.

2.
Place the portraits you want to use into the Portraits folder.
The large portrait has to be 110X170 and the small 38X60,
or else it will not work.

3.
Restart the game, and customize your character.

Extra tip!
To use another portrait for one or more NPC's in the game,
you just need to rename the portraits to the name of the NPC.

Here is the 8 letter naming scheme for the
game to recognize the portraits:

Using capital letters or not will not make any difference.
This is just my preferred way of naming them.
* = especially notice these. (Star * not part of the name.)

The BG 2 information comes from:
Lady NightShade's custom portraits web site.

I have no idea if it really has to be in capitals or not
as I have not tested this out for myself.

Reasons why it still might not work:

- Be sure to use BMP format portraits.
If you happen to try using JPG format portraits it will
not work. I noticed this myself, when I accidentally
happen to use JPG portraits.

- Be sure to have portraits inside the Portraits
folder without any other folders inside.

How to use sounds in Baldur's Gate:

1.
Place sounds you want to use into your
Sounds folder in the Baldur's Gate folder.

2.
Restart the game and customize your character.

Reasons why it still might not work:

- Be sure to have sounds inside the Sounds folder
without any other folders inside.

- If you have the NPC sounds in folders named
after the NPC it will not work.

- NPC sounds do not work outside the game.

- If you are having problems downloading; try it again
in a few days. Changes might be happening to the server
so there might be some temporary problems that
you are experiencing.

BG Editors - Bringing customization even further:

Team BG - Baldurs Gate character editor.

There are also other editors to help you out. Editors should be used
with caution, for they are not officially supported and one does not
know what will happen to a saved game, so create a backup of your
game before you test any editor. Some people do not like it when
someone has a modified character, so tell others about it before playing
a multiplayer game with them.

A very good sound extractor tool I would
recommend to check out is the..

ANX Game Audio Player

Photoshop tips on how to improve images:

To improve any image or portrait in Photoshop
(this might also work with other programs),
there are a few things you should have in mind.

1.
Go into (Auto) Levels. Image -> Adjust -> Auto Levels
(or for better dark and light control - Levels)

Here is the place you adjust how much light/color you will
see in the picture. Play around with the settings and see how
it changes the look and feel. Drag the left arrow to where the
spicks begin on the left side, and the right arrow to where the
spicks begin on the right side. If the spicks are all along the
graph then you don't need to move anything.

2.
Go into Filter -> Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask

This will change the clarity of your image/portrait,
so play around with the settings to you are satisfied
with the result you see.

3.
(Optional if needed) Go into Image -> Adjust -> Color Balance

(There are lots of ways to adjust colors, and this is the way
I like to do it, but for greater control try the Hue/Saturation
which is also a very good tool.)

Here you can add some red to the pale face if it is needed,
or adjust any other color to make the image look a lot better.

I hope this will help you in your Photoshop retouching of
portraits or images. If this helps users in other programs as well
in some way or another even better.
